Rishikesh

Rishikesh

Yoga capital of the world and gateway to the Himalayas, set on the holy Ganges.

Uttarakhand, India2-3 daysSeptember to November, February to May

Overview

Nestled in the Himalayan foothills where the Ganges leaves the mountains, Rishikesh blends spirituality and adventure. Attend the evening Ganga Aarti, meditate in a riverside ashram, or raft the rapids. It is about 240 km from Delhi and pairs well with neighbouring Haridwar.

Getting there: around 6 hours from Delhi by road. Trains run to Haridwar and to Yog Nagari Rishikesh, and Dehradun's Jolly Grant Airport is about 35 km away. The town is vegetarian and alcohol-free.
