Monuments & LandmarksTaj Mahal
Shah Jahan's white-marble mausoleum for Mumtaz Mahal and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Go at opening time for soft light and thinner crowds. Closed on Fridays.

Home of the Taj Mahal — a timeless day trip from Delhi steeped in Mughal grandeur.
Just over 200 km from Delhi, Agra is one of India's most iconic destinations. Beyond the marble wonder of the Taj Mahal lie the sandstone ramparts of Agra Fort, the exquisite tomb of Itmad-ud-Daulah (the "Baby Taj") and the abandoned imperial city of Fatehpur Sikri. It makes a perfect one- or two-day escape.
Getting there: the Yamuna Expressway brings you from Delhi in about 3.5 to 4 hours, and fast trains such as the Gatimaan Express take under two hours. The Taj Mahal is closed on Fridays, so plan your visit around it.
